Default Family/Persoal Leave less than 1 year employment

I was wondering if there is any law that protects jobs for those employed only 6 months before going on leave to care for a child??? I have been searching and can't find anything for those employed less than a full 12 months. I will be emplyed 6 full months before I have my child and then will be on Short Term Disabilty for 6 weeks, but I want to take 6 more weeks after that to care for my child. Is there any type of of leave I qualify for by law to secure my job so I can return to my job after 12 weeks??? Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

You must have worked at least 12-months with an employer before being covered by the FMLA.
