Washington Our HOA Board has openly harassed,slandered and libeled several members .

This Board has members who have personal vendettas with several community members and are using their office to restrict participation in community activities, use of facilities and have warned other members and employees to have no contact with these members on threat of loosing their job or being ostrasized themselves. They disseminate rumors and lies intended to cause intentional emotional distress and any attempt to resolve issues with them is met with contempt and derogetory comments. We are prisoners in our own homes because of their behavior. We have official recordings of Board meetings where inapproriate comments have been made and documentation of violations of our state RCWs governingnon-profits and HOAs. What do we do? Can individual suit be brought against specific members and the Board as a whole? Ideally, we should move, but that is not an option at this time.

If you are members in good standing and denied access to community activities or the use of facilities, you MIGHT have grounds for a civil law suit, an attorney could tell you better.

Thats not YOUR problem

You want to sue for what, hurt feelings?
It sounds like you have a bunch of bullies trying to run the show.
You all need to unite and find a collective backbone between you, stand up to them and speak up at the HOS meetings.
Aren’t these people elected to the board? Vote them out, or run yourself.
Or ignore them,
or move.
It’s not going to get any better until you do.

I served on the Board for two years (09-10) Previous to that we were sucessful as a community in removing an ineffective Board. However, it seems apathy has struck with a vengence and the probability of another sucessful removal is doubtful. We shall pursue, by committee, other alternatives. In the meantime, we will "bite the bullet" and not allow their kindergarten behavior to interfer with our goal. Thank you for your input.

We were not informed this was a Home Owners Association until we met with the title company at closing. Our sales person failed to mention it. Since we were under time and money constraints we had no choice. I am optimistic our committee can succeed in getting this HOA dissolved. We decided if we leave the Board to it's own devices they will hang themselves. We just have to be able to ignore their bullying behaviors. Easier for some of us than others.
