My father died recently and we went through the process with his company to finalize all the information that they needed to pay his death benefit. Around the time that the checks were supposed to be mailed, we were notified that there would be a 30 day delay.
We were told the reasons were because my father got sick and was admitted to hospice in November and in December the company switched insurance providers. My father didn't die until Mid January the next year, now there is a dispute as to which company should be responsible for the benefits (since my father wasn't actively working when the new company took over).
An additional 30 days later, we still know nothing & it seems like we are getting the run around and I wanted to know if there were any labor laws that stipulated when a benefit has to be paid.
Any info will be appreciated.
