Default Loooong waiting period for recieving Drivers License

So my wife took her written and road tests and passed just fine. They
said she would get her license in around 6 weeks. Once 6 weeks was up
I called California DMV to see what was going on. The phone
technician said it would be between 3 to 9 months because the license
has to pass through INS approval first. 3 to 9 months? holy cow!

Did a google search on the group and found that some people have had
to wait over a year. Geeeeze!

Anyone get their license lately, and how long did you have to wait?

    Thanks!

My husband (UKC) went in to the California DMV as soon as his SSN was
issued in May of this year. He passed the written and the woman asked if
he had been licensed in the UK. They took his license number and then
immediately issued him a temporary license. He took his road test a
short while later and was issued another temporary license. His
permanent license arrived in the mail before the first temporary one had
expired. Sounds like we had a lucky time of things.

My wife had to wait 2 or 3 months for the permanent one, but was able to drive on the temporary one you get when you pass the test. Did your wife get a temp license?
Yeah, she has her temp license. It was just amazing to hear it could
take so long. As it turns out the Cal DMV has a phone number for just
such issues, the department is called Legal Presence and the number is
916-657-7445. I called this number and they checked the status on if
it had been approved by the BCIS. It was so she marked it right then
for delivery. So my wife should have the real license in around 3
    weeks.
