The weekend before Christmas, my Husband and I were visiting his Parent in Montgomery County, Kansas. This is also the same County my husband is from. He, like many of us in his position, went thru a divorce, and as a result, was left with much of the debt from the previous marriage. Apparently he had been "served" to appear because one of his creditors, WOODS LUMBER COMPANY & NEWTON HARDWARE STORE had drawn up a law suit against him (the total bill is roughly 1800.00 for both combined.) Well, since he had moved to a different state because of getting remarried, he had not received any of the "notices to appear." SO, the Sunday before Christmas, at 4am, the Sheriff's department of Montgomery County Kansas came knocking on his Parent's door to take my Husband to JAIL BECAUSE HE DIDN'T APPEAR IN COURT FOR A CIVIL MATTER. $500.00 AND 6 HOURS LATER, I GOT MY HUSBAND OUT OF JAIL, WAS VERY UPSET, AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS COULD HAPPEN. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, anyone who knows anything about this BIZARRE process let me know if this is legal, and if we can actually turn around and file a complaint with the FTC or ANYONE for being wrongfully arrested. Thank you!
