I live in California and my wife and kids live in Nevada.
I tried to file for divorce jointly with my wife in Nevada without the use of lawyers so that we could save money but my wife refused and hired a lawyer so I had to do the same.
My laywer requested a fill out a settlement proposal which was impossible to do with first receving a financial disclosure from my wife..she has handled all of our family finances for years.
My lawyer requested that I fill out a financial disclosure form which I did. I requested that he request one from wife so that I could write a settlement proposal.
My lawyer gave my financial disclosure to my wife's laywer and did not recieve her financial disclosure back in return. They have not respoinded to requests for this information even though mine was provided willingly to them. Now I will have to pay my laywer more money to file an action with court to get the information. Should this not have been provided at the time mine was provided? Can my laywer charge me more money to get it through a court action? Did he drop the ball? Is this legal?
