Missed Jury Duty Georgia

My 21 year old step son was supposed to have jury duty this week. Not being overly responsible, he overslept and missed it. It called the clerk of the court and was told that he would have to appear before the judge and that he may be have to appear at another court session jury pool up to a fine or jail for contempt.

I'm wondering what is most common in these cases?

There is no excuse other than oversleeping (which has been a problem for him for years. You cant stay up until 3 or 4 in the am and expect to get up at 7 without problems...)

My stepdaughter did the same thing (must be something in the water). She appeared in front of the judge who sternly reminded her of her duty to server then had her placed back into the jury pool for an upcoming trial.

He also told her that if she 'missed' again, she'd be spending 24 hours behind bars for contempt.

Thank you. I wish there was some way to make him more responsible. I cant tell you how many times he has slept thru appointments/school/SATs.

We've discussed the amount of caffeine he drinks and he freely admits to being addicted to caffeine. He also likes to stay up until the wee hours and then 2 can have 2 alarm clocks blaring and can still sleep thru them.

Oh well.
