Default Can I get joint custody of my children?

Michigan has a joint custody law that encourages judges to award joint legal custody to parents. This would mean that both parents would have a right to make decisions concerning such things as their children's education, medical treatment, religious training or enrichment activities.

Joint custody is the presumption of the court, unless the situation warrants otherwise. So unless there is some other problem, if you request joint custody, you should get it. Beyond that, there is the matter of primary physical custody and reasonable visitation: which you would want to pursue?
