I just started a new job in Omaha, NE. I do not have a savings or checking account. The company has automatic deposit. Am I required to get an account?

According to the BNA Payroll Library:
May be mandatory at employer's discretion. There is no applicable state law or regulation nor has the Dept. of Labor issued an “official” opinion on this issue. The Department has taken the position, however, that there is nothing in the Wage Payment and Collection Act that prohibits employers from requiring their employees be paid by direct deposit (Letter from John H. Albin, Legal Counsel, Neb. Dept. of Labor, (10/28/1997)).

What about a pay card? No bank account required. Many employers with mandatory direct deposit will pay this way for its unbanked employees.
