I am a mother-to-be and I am not married to the father of my baby. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me the rules in whether or not I can give my baby the surname of the father. Will I have to place my last name on the birth certificate?

You can give your child any last name you want.

...and obviously, you will have your full name on the birth certificate, as well.

You just can't list the father of the child on the BC as the "FATHER" unless he and you sign a voluntary AoP or until DNA establishes that he is, in fact, the father.

None of that has any bearing on what you name your child.
