I know New Hampshire has a law that a person can be let go from their job without cause....but out of curiosity we had a situation where a person felt threatened - just a feeling she had from the attitude expressed by a manager. (she was in attendance of a meeting and heard many discrepancies and watched the members getting hot under the collar per say, So in the process of pulling together information she wrote in the begining:
It is my role as an employee of a company to support the company and to protect its' best interests and not allow something that I feel and know to be incorrect information just get pushed aside, but to provide the information to correct the discrepancies. Just as in my role as a manager at previous companies it was my role to provide a safe environment for my employees to feel comfortable and safe from harassment or freedom from feeling that their job may be in threat if they did bring forth any discrepancies that may have discovered in the daily routine of their job, as I feel this company believes. Her one boss told her how this was inappropriate and hopefully nothing will come out of this, how they will protect her etc. This woman was beside herself all upset and now feels she can be fired for this..so my question, taking out New Hampshire's law can she be fired for expressing her opinion when her work ethics have been excellent over the years she has been with the company? |

You are correct.

Why would someone be beside herself over descrepencies in a meeting? I'm guessing there is more to the story. Regardless, if her opinion about how a situation should be handled differs from the way her boss wants to handle it, provided he isn't asking her to break the law, yes, she can be fired.
