    Default unemployment while on FMLA?

Is it possible to collect unemployment benefits while on FMLA leave? The leave is a result of my own serious illness (cardiac arrest, subsequent hospitalization and surgery) My employer is willing to grant the FMLA leave to retain my health insurance benefits. I do not have any other source of income at present, thus hopeful for UI. I am not permitted to return to work based solely upon the fact that there is no work I can perform within my lifting restrictions.

Unemployment is not available unless you are able to work, actively looking for work, and available to accept work if offered.

If you are medically unable to work, you cannot collect unemployment.
