I am wondering if in Iowa your employer can make you stay past your scheduled shift. My employer does it all the time. Help please.

It is legal. They have to pay you overtime for those hours, but it is legal. A lot of companies have mandatory overtime from time to time. There are a lot of things that employers can do that aren't necessarily 'fair' so to speak, but are absolutelly legal. They don't have to give any breaks in most states to adult workers, Iowa included, they can change your schedule at any given time (without your consent), can change your pay as long as it doesn't take you below minimum wage, etc. Sorry to tell you, but if your employer says mandatory overtime, I would comply. Or find a new job......

They only have to pay you overtime if those hours take you over 40 in a week. Iowa does not require overtime to be calculated on a daily basis.
But yes, mandatory overtime is legal. |
