    Default Cussing at your neighbor

Cussing at your neighbor and telling him "F**k you isn't against the law,
but is there anything you can legally do about a neighbor who is out there
    cussing all the time?

It depends on what jurisdiction you're in, as well as more detail about
what is happening. As they say, the first amendment doesn't protect you
from yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater. If the person's swearing is
threatening, or creates a disturbance, or something of the like, it
might be some sort of disorderly-conduct type of offense.

If it was me, I would get a video camera. I'd go out and confront the
*******, then wait for HIM to make a move. At that point it is self-defense.

Its not self-defense if you confront him first, then he responds.

Not true. "Confront" is one thing, until one makes a "move". You have just
as much right to say things as he does. Just make sure you have a camera/
    witnesses.

He might not mean "confront" in a violent sense. As a general matter, if he
confronts the neighbor about the cussing in a nonviolent manner and the
neighbor responds violently, then he has the right to reasonably defend
    himself.

Exactly. He might as well get it over with; otherwise this will drag on for
who knows how long. That's why I said to make sure he has a camera
on the meeting and/or witnesses; as manay as possible. Call this
******* out. I've done it several times myself. Most times these loud
mouths are just that - mouth. Once they realize you're not intimidated
by their BS, they usually back down.

If it's really bad, mebbe you can try to get an injunction based on a
    nuisance theory.

Cussing at your neighbor and telling him "F**k you isn't against the law,
Actually, in many jurisdictions it is. It falls under verbal
    assault.
but is there anything you can legally do about a neighbor who is out there cussing all the time?
Is this neighbor cussing at anyone in particular, of just
using foul language as part of his/her standard dialog?
If s/he is cussing at someone specific, the verbal assault
option might apply. If not, there isn't anything you can do, except
ask the s/he refrain from using such language in your presence.
