I am a local truck driver in washington state hauling gas (hazzardous materials). The company i work for is gonna start requiring us to "log Off" for an hour a day and 2 10 minute breaks. What i want to know is do they have to pay us? Our cars will be miles away. Its not like we can hop in our cars and go pay bills or go home or something. Since we are caring hazzardous materials we cant just leave the truck anywhere and its 70ft long so we cant just take it anywhere.
Do they have to pay us since we really cant just go do what we want? |

The rest breaks of 10 min. each must be paid.
This is what Wa. says about meal breaks - If an employee is required to remain "on duty" or the premises or at a prescribed worksite in the interest of the employer during the meal period, the employee must be paid for the meal period.
