I would like to know why the NY W-2 has a different amount in Box 16 compared to Box 18. Boxes 1 and 16 are the same, 18 is different. Does the difference have a bearing on the calculations?

    Box 1 is federal wages.
    Box 16 is state wages.
Box 18 is local wages (for example, New York City and Yonkers also have an income tax which is computed on local wages).

Federal and state are usually the same. Box 18 can vary depending on where you live and work.
I am not able to respond to private messages. Thanks!

Does anyone know why the state income tax in Box 17 on the state copy will be different to Box 17 on the federal filing copy? The person works in one state and lives in another. Does this have anything to do with it?
