  • I-129F question.

I would like to file I-129F for my fiance. One of the required documents is a
copy of my original certificate of naturalization front and back. I made a
mistake not copying the back of the certificate.

Several days ago, I applied to get a US passport. The post office took my
passport application form and my original certificate of naturalization. They
said that it might take 6 weeks to get my passport. I am guessing that they
will return my certificate along with my passport then.

My question is: Would INS deem my petition incomplete because of the missing
copy of the back side of my naturalization certificate? It's basically be a
blank page with maybe a faint mark of the embossed seal.

Should I wait until I get my certificate back and make the copy, or should I go
ahead and file I-129F without it.

    Thanks!

    I-129F question.

What service center are you filing at? For some service centers, it may be
worth it to just get your application in the queue ASAP and if you get a RFE
then deal with it. At CSC, for example, it's taking about four months for
them to get to the applications. But they've been processing RFEs in about
two weeks. So rather than waiting 6 weeks, you would be better off getting
your paperwork off ASAP so you can start waiting in line. An RFE would just
add another two weeks to the wait, and not having the back of the
certificate, especially if it's blank, is really not a big issue. If you're
going to VSC, where they've been processing applications in less than a
month, the issue may be a wash.
