    I-130 process - Vermont center

I recently acquired citizenship and would like to sponsor my mother. I read
on the USCIS website regarding the process for first getting a visa number,
if available, and then applying. Could someone please help me understand
what this process looks like? How long is the wait for getting a visa
number in the Vermont processing center?

    Thanks.

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/ptimes.jsp says that immediate relative I-130 petitions are taking about 3 and 1/2 months from filing to approval at the USCIS Vermont Service Center. The VSC does not have anything to do with "getting a visa number." The VSC sends the approved petition to the National Visa Center in New Hampshire. See http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigra...ypes_1309.html. The NVC sends out the I-864 processing fee bill, and when the bill is paid, sends the I-864 forms and instructions to the petitioner. The NVC then sends
    out
the Immigrant Visa fee bill, and when that is paid, sends the Instruction Packet to the beneficiary (or agent, if there is one). The beneficiary sends the Instruction Packet reply, and then either the NVC or the
    consular
post sends the appointment notice to the beneficiary. The consular post generally requests a visa number from the State
    Department
a little over a month before the interview appointment. The time from I-130 approval to the immigrant visa appointment is about 4 months or more. "Jag" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected]
