Now the Italians have claimed the find as theirs with a holiday and parade and good Italian cooking such as street vendors serving sausage and peppers and onions on a hero.

Ok, ok.... sounded nice though. Would have been easier for me to get to
my wife without the waiting though......

Yeah just think- if Spain had not abandoned The New World.... we'd all
be sitting around eating Jamon Serrano (pata negra from Jabugo, Iowa of
course) drinking a nice tinto (from Ribera del Duero California) and
eating some nice olives (from Jaen, New Mwxico) complaining about how
bad off we have it- with out 30 days paid vacation and 29
                national/regional holidays per year!!

So come on now- sing some jotas and celebrate Virgin of the Pilar day
as any good Spaniard- cachirulo around the neck and bota bag around
                the sholder.

                Viva Aragon!!!

                Viva Espana!!!

                        iron,

I think you've got a rather narrow view of "The New World"? All but 3
countries of it (the continental countries, anyway) speak Spanish.

                        Regards, JEff

Narrow? Hell, I'd love to be living in Nuevo Teruel. After living in
Spain for years as a young man, I fell in love with the culture and the
people- and especially with the food. Now 20 years later I have my
Spanish wife here in the States and all we do is complain about things
that are not found on American shelves.

Hell...if Coronado, Ponce de Leon, and all the others were interested in
farming, just imagine what they could have had. More gold than they ever
sent back to the Kings and to the Pope.

As far as languages... French (Canada),English (Canada/USA), Portuguese
(Brazil), Dutch (Surinam), not to mention all the Aboginal Languages
                          still spoken (and lost).
