  • Alabama teen needs Emancipation! Help Please!

My girlfriend is 16 and she lives in Alabama. Her mother is on medication almost all the time for a terminal illness so she really cant function to well when shes on her medicine. Her father left her and her mother when she was 4. She has a little brother who is 13 and a step dad. Her step dad is an alchoholic and comes home drunk everynight and threatens to beat her for no reason at all. He has already hit her a couple times in the past. She does all of the housework and takes care of her entire family because they tell her if she doesnt then she cant talk to any of her friends or have no freedom what-so-ever.She does everything they ask of her but they still yell at her for no reason and she cant do anything about it. I know shes not happy living there. She has been living in this hellhole for all of her life and im sick of them treating her so bad. Im afraid she might be mentally or physically damaged from being there. She was homeschooled and is now considered to be graduated from highschool. She means everything to me and i want her to be happy. I know shes not 18 and i doubt her parents will ever petition for an Emancipation but i really want to help her i just dont know how. Were ready to be together just me and her so we can start our life and be happy. If anyone can please help us we would appreciate it so much.

Thanks and hopefully we can get some help

Abuse is not a reason for emancipation. It is a reason to call CPS.

Does your girlfriend have a job? Can she support herself independently? If not, she may as well give up on the idea of emancipation because it will not happen.

The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.

Then emancipation is not an option. Her option is contact CPS thier National Hotline is 1-800-4-A-CHILD

I didn't expect her to be able to live with me, but she needs to get protection from them or she needs to live with other relatives that will take care of her.

What are the requirments if you know for the CPS to take any actions against a childs parents. I need to know if she can even have a chance at winning before any decisions are made.

You don't make that decision. If you feel there is abuse or anyone does then CPS should be contacted. Real simple if ther eis abuse then CPS needs to be aware so they can investigate.
