  • HELP HELP HELP SHE IS IN TROUBLE..... Maryland

I have a friend who needs help. Her mom has been arrested for child abuse and is still verbally and physically abusing her. My friend is 15 and I want to get custody of her but her mom wont sign over her rights. she said " I need her for Tax seasons and for her child support check."
My friend is in the 9th grade and has missed a lot of school due to the fact that her mom doesn't have a stable home for her to live in. Her mom is in a relationship and when things get rock she takes is out on my friend. she has even kicked her out and told her she doesn't care where she goes. Can she be emancipated if I provide for her? I just want to make sure she is safe and goes to school. Help Please

Can she be emancipated if I provide for her?

If ANYONE is providing for her then no, she cannot be emancipated. Emancipation (which is not possible at ALL for 15 year olds except in two states, neither of which is Maryland) means that she is SELF supporting. Emancipation does not mean that custody is taken away from the mother/father and given to someone else; it means that the minor is capable of paying her own rent, food, clothes, utilities, transportation, medical care, insurance, school fees and supplies, etc.

      And how old are you?
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
