  • Resedential program, no breaks??

Hello. I work at a domestic violence shelter in California. We're switching our coverage hours to be available 24/7. The weekend staff (myself) have been told that on our 8 hour shifts we are not to leave the property for any breaks. We may shut the door and eat in the office but still need to be available for client needs. We're not permitted to take 15 minute breaks either. Is this legal??

    Thanks

I did read LLconnel's reply to a similar question a while back. The residential program's she specified for exemptions were elderly, developmentally disabled and youth, I believe. Just for clarification the shelter I work at is for domestic violence victims who are all capable of self-care. Didn't know if that mattered.
