  • longer hours....same pay

The company I work for is implementing a new "policy" come January 1st.
My current scheduled hours are 9am-5pm which includes an hour lunch and 2 15 minute breaks....thery want everyone to now have to work 9-6....can they do this without extra pay....and does it matter whether you are salary or hourly?

Yes they can do this as long as you do not work over 40 hours in a single work week for hourly employees, then you would need to get overtime for any hours worked over 40. For salary, it does not matter if you are an exempt employee, they pay by the job, not the hour and can require you to work a great amount of hours.

Many companies have 9 hours days with a combination of breaks and lunch to bring the work day hours to 8.

Let me know if you have further questions.
