    Can a manager ask/force an employee to quit? What happens if they ask you to quit and you refuse, then they set you up to get fired? This seems pretty illegal to me....am I right?

    Probably not.

    Unless the firings violate your rights as members of a protected class, your manager is allowed to be a jerk.

    He is also allowed to fire you.
    Not everything that makes you mad, sad or uncomfortable is legally actionable.

      but he can't force you to quit. Can he? aka the manager says "you are turning in your notice."

        Yes, he can. And if you refuse, you he can fire you.

        However, it is unlikely in the extreme that the unemployment office will actually view this as a quit; I would expect you to be able to collect in most cases.
        The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
