  • boss was billed for my mistake, can he take that out of my paycheck? Oregon

So I made a mistake at work, and my boss could be fined a lot of money for it Can he legally take that money out of my paycheck?

    any information would be great.

also, in regards to some other employees that work with me. I don't get paid "under the table" but some of my coworkers do. If they make mistakes to where the company is fined, can they do anything if my boss takes wages out of their paychecks?

Being paid "under the table" is not a legal practice. Since there is no record of the employee ever being paid, I suppose the boss could dock as sees fit.

Now let's get to the question that directly impacts you.

Oregon statute is very clear in that your boss may NOT take a deduction from your pay without your written consent. The following link explains in detail: http://www.boli.state.or.us/BOLI/TA/...Tadeduct.shtml. Even though a payroll deduction is not lawful, it would not fully relieve you of any wrongdoing. You could be disciplined (including termination) for the infraction that created the fine.
