  • Breaks and Lunches North Carolina

I was told recently that even though you work an 8 to 10 hr day, an employer does not have to give you breaks or a lunch. Is this true or have I been miss informed?

    It is true

In your state, yes, it is true.

There is no Federal law requiring an employer provide any breaks of any kind, regardless of the length of shift. Some states have implemented a law requiring rest breaks, meal breaks, or both, but NC is not one of them.

However, if the employer requires that you take a break, you must take a break, regardless of whether there is a law saying so or not.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
