    Cash Drawer Short... New York

I am an on-call bartender for a event space in Manhattan. We are a high-volume, cash only environment. It's been brought to my attention that if our cash is short at the end of an event, we're responsible for paying the difference before leaving. Regardless of the amount (I owed $1) isn't this illegal? I brought it up with my manager and he said he didn't think so: I can't find anything online speaking specifically to this situation. I know that it's illegal to make a waitress pay the check on a walk-out, but I don't work in a restaurant per se. ANY information would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Amanda

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it..

We use an archaic (think 80's supermarket) cash register - buttons for beer, mixed drink, shot, etc.

NY Labor Code 193 and 12 NYCRR 137-2.5 prohibit this.

Just for my own curiosity, how are they keeping track of cash sales at this place?
