  • unauthorized deduction

My fiance works at a Tow/Repair Shop and drives a flat bed tow truck. He had broken a mirror on the truck on accident one day. He let his boss know and the next week he automatically took out $500 from his paycheck.
We were reading some threads on here that stated this needs to be of written authorization in order to deduct. He obviously has insurance on all of the trucks and this incident was not with another vehicle.
Is this true that they cannot deduct unless authorized? If it is, is there anything we need to do to confront him on this? Any specific paperwork to have? Any specific person to contact?
    Thanks!

It would have been easier if you'd put both questions in the same thread. Yes, this is an illegal deduction under MA law and the recourse for this, too, is to contact the MA AG's office.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
