    I was wondering if it is a law that you must work the day before and after a holiday in order to be paid for that holiday? My employer has no such policy and pays us for 13 holidays. Other people I know are bound by this day before, day after rule. Is it entirely up to the individual employer? Is there any such labor law regarding holidays in Massachusetts?

    No, there is no such law in any state. However, many employers have such policies and at least for non-exempt employees, it is a perfectly legal policy. It is entirely up to the employer whether to implement such a policy or not.
    The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
