  • Breastfeeding in Iowa Iowa

I'm pumping at work during my break times. However, my pumping time goes over my allotted break time. My employer wants me to either cut my lunch break short or come in early to make-up the time I go over. Is this legal? What is my employer required to provide for me?

Iowa doesn't require that your employer allow you extra break time to pump. If anyone else who regualrly went over their breaks allowed would need to come in early to make up the time or take it off lunch, the same could be done for you.

Iowa also doesn't require either a meal period or a break at all. It is up to the employer to decide whether or not you get a break and when. If everyone gets two 15 minute breaks, then that is what you are allowed.
I post with the full knowledge and support of my employer, though the opinions rendered are my own and not necessarily representative of their position. In other words, I'm a free agent.
