  • Workmans Comp And Sub Contractors

I am an entertianment company that hires individual sub contractors to do work. For example i hire balloon artists. To my understanding since the balloon artists works as himself he can not get workmans comp insurance. The rates that i pay him than get factored into my overall workman's comp policy and I essentially cover this individual. Does anybody know that if this individual gives me a certificate of liability if that certificate makes him exempt from me having to include him under my policy?

I suggest you call your insurance company and find out. They should have an idea of what a subcontractor needs so that he isn't covered under your policy.
