  • Opening second business Georgia

I own a tree service and am starting another business which will be strickly online. My question is - is it better to file for another LLC or a DBA/AKA (if there is such a thing). Is it better to have a seperate Federal Tax ID?

In most cases, I prefer to have clients set up separate LLCs. The cost is Georgia is fairly low and a separate LLC gives added protection of the assets of one business from the creditors of the other.

Whether you need a separate FEIN is strictly a function of how you choose to organize the businesses. If they are the same (including a single member LLC which is disregarded for tax purposes), you must use a single FEIN. If the businesses are separate entities, each must have its unique FEIN.
