Well, this is kinda long story. My sister had been sick for almost a
year. She was coughing most of the time. We went to a doctor and he
said she is going ot have pneumonia and gave her antibiotics. AFter a
month, she started coughing again so we went to this another doctor
who also said she had pneumonia. So that doctor also gave her
medication. So we've been seeing this doctor for 10 months. My ssiter
gets better when she's on medication and once she finished it, it gets
worse. Everytime we went to this doctor, she kept on giving her
antibiotic saying it's pneumonia. One day my sister coughed up some
blood. We told the doctor about this and she said "probably she's
coughign so hard that her mucus membrane got ruptured, so she's
coughing blood" Well, we are no doctors, so we beleived her. She keeps
on taking her x-rays and says, ohh it's just pneumonia. Finally about
4 weeks back, my sister said this has been going on for a year, so she
doen'st know why it keeps on coming back, then finally this doctor
goes "Ohh ok.. i can't see anything in xray,so maybe we should do
catscan". When the catscan report came back, she calls my sister and
tells her that the report doesn't look good.. she sees some nodes in
my sister's lung and this is exactly what she said " You know it might
be lung cancer.. or maybe TB.. i'm not sure so i'm sending you to a
lung specialist" My sister comes to me crying. I was so sad... when
you hear the word cancer...imagine what you feel. We coudn't get the
apointment for the lung specialist right away. We had to wait for a
week before we could see this new doctor. Whole week we were really
depressed.. what if it is lung cancer?? I went online and looked at
all the information about it and found out that almost 98% of lung
cancer occurrs in people who smoke. My sister is no smoker nor
drinker. She's only 23 yrs old. So finally when we saw the lung
specialist, he just looked at the old x-ray that we took from our old
doctor and said she has TB. He said the doctor should've seen it in
the xray. She has cavity TB. So i'm wondering how come this previous
doctor coudlnt' see that? She was neglecting my sister's health and i
am so mad. I want to sue this doctor. She kept on giving her
antibiotics for 10 months. She said she didn't see anything in the
xray when this new doctor said it was clearly visible in the xray that
she has TB. He said that since she has cavity in her lung, she'll have
a long term affect. This makes me so sad and mad. Do you all see if i
have a case to sue this doctor? Please pour some suggestions... it'll
really help us.

Thanks

Wroozee,

The problem with what you're trying to do here is that you may be
mis-stating or leaving out important details of these incidents. From what
you have posted it sounds as if your sister was wronged by the 2nd
physician.
Have your sister look in the phonebook for attorneys who offer free
initial consults and specialize in medical malpractice. Advise her not to
delay as the time for filing complaints may be short. Don't be surprised if
lawyers aren't interested since it doesn't sound as if your sister has
suffered any great damage.

Good luck,
Dave M.

Yeah, it is the 2nd physician that misdiagnosed. The thing is she is
an indian doctor and she should be familiar with TB cases since there
are lots of TB cases in India. The funny thing is she kept on saying
she doesn't see anything on the xray. The lung specialist just looked
at the old xray and said she has TB. He said that it's clearly visible
in the xray. TB bacteria normally resides on the upper lobe of the
lung and if any doctor sees anything at that portion, they normally
suspect it's TB. And this Indian doctor kept on saying it's nothing.
My sister is taking medication now and she seems to be doing fine, but
she will have long term affect on her lung since she has a cavity. I
completely blame this indian doctor for her negligence. My sister is
an international student and her insurance paid only certain portion
for her medication. She spend around 1K for her medication which she
didn't need to take. I hope she at least gets her money back for the
medication.
We haven't talked to a lawyer yet, but i wanted to make sure that
there is a case before we rush.

Thanks for suggestions.
