People who are mentally ill often know they are mentally ill;
unfortunately, far too many mentally ill people do NOT know they are
sick. As you know, my church tries to help some of the homeless people
in Los Angeles are surrounding counties: a hell of a lot of them are
mentally ill.

Of the few that do know they are sick, many of them do not want to be
treated because of the irrational phoboia regarding mental illness
(they negatively associate the treatment with the sickness). The
others more or less "like" being mentally ill, as it provides them
certain mental and emotional protections. Barbara Schwarz might fall
under this type of person, since she rather apparently derives
pleasure from feeling "persecuted" by extremely powerful enemies.

But it _would_ work as a defense against being found mentally... um,
"unfortunate" for lack of a better word. There are a _lot_ of broken
people out there suffering from such delusions and they're left
pretty much alone since it's considered a violation of their rights
to forcefully treat or otherwise hold them. She could claim she was
just joking and mental health professionals would have to believe her.

This kook constitutes a hazard to the victims she sues but she has
yet done anything to indicate she's at the point of murder or mayhem.
She's working her way up to Koos, it seems to me, but she's got a
way to go.
