Could Baby Ring Cost Actress Her Child?
March 8, 2004
It was a dream come true for Angelina Jolie when she and her then
husband, Billy Bob Thornton, adopted a baby boy from Cambodia about a
year and a half ago. They named him Maddox, and when the superstar
couple split, she got custody.

Jolie was in Cambodia shooting the first "Laura Croft" movie when she
visited an orphanage and decided to adopt. But while she was trying to
bring Maddox home, the INS issued an order stopping all adoptions from
Cambodia because of all the improprieties. For months Jolie was not
allowed to take Maddox to the U.S.

Jolie kept the baby with her in Africa while she worked on her film
"Beyond Borders" as the INS continued to investigate. Finally, our
government gave its seal of approval to the adoption.

But now the feds say the Seattle-based adoption agency that brokered
Maddox’s adoption was crooked, and maintain that babies were being
bought and sold. The agency was shut down, the woman who ran it now
awaits sentencing for conspiracy, and feds say she lied when she claimed
some of the kids were orphans.

So where does that leave Jolie and her beloved little boy? There are
rampant news reports suggesting that Jolie may loose little Maddox.

Hollywood attorney Karen Lane specializes in adoptions. She says the
doe-eyed superstar and her baby are most likely safe.

Sources tell "CJ" that the government's case documents list all the
questionable adoptions brokered by the agency, and Jolie is not on the
list. The INS tells "CJ" they have no intention of taking Maddox away
from his celebrity mom.

I seriously doubt she'll loose Maddox. This was a legal adoption with the
stamp of approve of State.

When I saw the term "baby ring" I thought it mean a baby ring, you know the
kind that's worn on the finger. I have my baby ring--a little gold heart.
