EXTREMELY URGENT! Please cross-post to other lists.

STOP SB335 FROM PASSING IN THE FULL SENATE

SB 335, a CONDITIONAL "equal access" bill, will be voted upon in New
Hampshire's Senate on March 11th. It is absolutely imperative that SB
335 is defeated! The conditional amendment to this bill contains a
CONTACT VETO with unauthorized contact by an adoptee resulting in a
PUNISHABLE MISDEMEANOR. The amendment also makes the bill PROSPECTIVE:
that is, it will apply only to those adopted after the bill becomes
law.

E-MAIL, CALL, AND FAX ALL members of the New Hampshire Senate TODAY and
urge them to VOTE NO to SB335. (Please see contact information below)

--Don't allow New Hampshire the right to criminalize your contact with
family members.
--Don't let New Hampshire take away your freedom of association.
--Don't give New Hampshire the ability to place a restraining order on
you without due process of law.
--Don't permit New Hampshire to conveniently discard the human and
civil rights of generations of adoptees who were adopted before 2004!

Each and every one of us needs to be vigilant about this bill because
if it makes it through the Senate, then it will be hard to stop in the
House. All states that have equal access bills pending will be hurt
with the passage of SB335.

The amendment is not on line at this time but the text of the bill can
be read at:
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2004/SB0335.html

Got the following response from Senator Boyce. Think he meant 'parties' not
'pirates'. All the same I guess.

At 12:07 PM 3/6/2004 -0800, you wrote:

Honorable Senator,

SB335 is unconstitutional. Instead of torturing adoptees further, why not
pass a bill that makes it a PUNISHABLE MISDEMEANOR to deny an adoptee their
right to identity?
Ray,

We acted today in the senate to strip the amendment and passed it as
introduced. It was a shock to both pirates' caucuses. It was a bi-partisan
defection that swung the pendulum. The vote was 12 for 11 against.

Now, it is up to the House to do the right thing and pass it unaltered.
