GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE NOTICE, 2003 - No. 43
BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Library Fines Increase Update
To Members of the Staff:
The Trustees voted at their May 20, 2003 meeting to increase fines and
change how fines are assessed.
GAN, 2003 #37 described the effective changes, but , because of
database structure, the implementation of fine increases will alter
slightly from the details of that GAN.
Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2003:
1. Increase adult fines to
10 cents/day
2. Increase juvenile fines to
5 cents/day
3. Increase lost library card fee to
$1.00
4. Maximum fines will be
$5 per item for all adult materials,
$2.50 per item for all children's and young adult materials.
The following illustrates the specifics of the
daily and maximum fine calculations:
Adult customers will pay
10 cents per day per late item.
If an adult
borrows adult materials, the maximum fine per item will be
$5; if an adult borrows children's or YA materials, the maximum fine per item will be
$2.50
Customers under 18 will pay
5 cents per day per late item.
If a child
or teen borrows adult materials, the maximum fine per item will be
$5; if a child or teen borrows children's or YA materials, the maximum fine will be
$2.50 per item.
All other details of GAN, 2003-#37 remain the same.
