I was just informed tonight that our boss will no longer pay overtime but will give compensation time instead. Is that legal? I live in Texas

It is illegal if you are a non-exempt employee. Texas employers must pay overtime for all hours worked over 40 in a week. (They can adjust schedules during the week to ensure that you don't go over 40.)
