SOLAN: Presently, living in the cozy and comfortable environs of her adopted
parents’ home, a year-and-a-half-old baby girl, allegedly abandoned in the
isolated bushes of Parwanoo on August 5, 2002 by her parents, may get upset as
her real mother has claimed her motherhood and wants the baby back at any cost.
The district administration and the police are in a dilemma over the issue and
have decided to go for a DNA test of the mother to ascertain her claim on the
very child, whom she had abandoned earlier.
It is understood that Madhu, a resident of Kalka, staked claim over the
possession of the baby girl which, she alleges, her husband had abandoned
behind the bushes of Parwanoo, under Sector 6 police post.
Since then she has been trying to locate and get her child back, without much
success. Later, when she approached the Parwanoo police for help, they arrested
her under Section 317 for allegedly abandoning the new-born baby girl. Her plea
that her estranged husband had abandoned the child, was turned down by the
Parwanoo police.
While talking to TNN, Surender Verma, deputy superintendent of Parwanoo Police,
revealed that when they recovered the new-born baby girl from the bushes of
Parwanoo, they tried hard to find the real parents, failing which they had no
other option but to hand over the child to the authorities of Child Welfare
Council.
