My employer is constantly yelling, calling us stupid and today he just told me to go to Hell.... is there anything I can do about this? I dont want the harrassment to continue, but I need my job.

janice811 05-12-2006, 07:11 AM My employer is constantly yelling, calling us stupid and today he just told me to go to Hell.... is there anything I can do about this? I dont want the harrassment to continue, but I need my job. cbg 05-12-2006, 07:15 AM Unfortunately, no. What you describe does not constitute illegal harassment. It is not illegal to be a jerk. If there is an HR department you are free to see if there are any internal company procedures you can go through, but no laws are being violated and you have no legal recourse. Outside of an internal complaint, your options are to put up with it or find alternate employment. janice811 05-12-2006, 07:20 AM It is a small company and there is no HR department.... I would love to find something to get this guy on.... what about racial slurs (not about me) or sexual jokes? cbg 05-12-2006, 07:32 AM How small a company are we talking about? It makes a difference. janice811 05-12-2006, 07:59 AM 9 employees. cbg 05-12-2006, 08:10 AM You're completely out of luck at the Federal level, where 15 employees are required before discrimination laws kick in. Depending on exactly what is said, you MIGHT have a case at the state level, where only 8 employees are required for the racial and sexual comments, but there is nowhere near enough detail to know if there's a legal case here or not. You'll have to talk the state human rights department. scubafire 06-28-2006, 04:03 PM My question is, I work for two of the most busy bodies in the world. I have had trouble out of my boss and the office manager after about 2 months of employment. I also work with a volunteer fire department when I am off my daily job. I have never brought the fire department up to anyone with out someone always asking me. I am just really tried of hearing my name and the fire departments name in everything when I go in and do 8.5 hours a day and go home. I have heard the other girls in the office say that is all they talk about is me and how no one should trust me they don't know me well enough to say anything about me. They have also brought someone I work with at the Fire hall in on this. I was telling this girl I work with about him and how much the acted alike she said call him I want to meet my twin so I did, they talked and know his name is mud and they haven't even meet him. Pattymd 06-29-2006, 05:20 AM Being a busybody is not against the law. Gossip is going to occur in the workplace and "harrassment" and "hostile working environment" have legal meanings. In none of what you posted do I see a violation of law. |
