View Full Version : Fence on boundary line

We bought some land with an ugly concrete fence on the boundary line
between our property and our neighbour's. Apparently a long time ago in the past the previous owners had decided to build a fence together on the property line. There is no record of this agreement. We would like to have the fence removed and have another fence built on our property. We offered to pay entirely for the removal of the concrete barrier (at quite a sum), but the neighbour on whose property line the fence jointly lines has refused. Are we stuck with having this fence partly on our property? I feel that this fence reduces the value of our property and may lead to further disagreement in the future (fence repair, etc). Isn't there some legal way we could force this neighbor to remove the fence and have them build their own fence (or just rely on a fence we build on our side of our property)? Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Build another fence on your property to hide the existing one. You did see it when you purchased the property so don't gripe now.
