I would like to know to know how long does an employer with less that 10 employees need to keep a job available when an employee takes maternity leave? Are there any other laws regulating maternity leave in Florida if the Employer does meet the elegibility criteria described in the FMLA? SOme people say 6 weeks, others say 12 weeks. What is it?

Only what the employer would allow for any other similarly-situated employee who was on a leave for any other reason. That's because the job protection provided under FMLA does not apply to employers of less than 50 employees. Florida does not have its own Medical Leave Act.
