What? Monica? Chandler? I suppose they are a couple on the show now? Are
they married? In past episodes have they decided to try to adopt?

Oh, I've not been a big Friends follower, but I've been trying to keep up with
this particular story line.

Yes, they married a few seasons back (I think it was the 8th finale).
They have been trying to get pregnant since Rachel was pregnant (her kid is
over a year old now). They went to a doctor and they both had some medical
problems which led them to start researching adoption. I know they are
going for a baby (and its only tv) but I would have liked to see them end up
adopting an older child (well, not too old, maybe a 5 year old).

After seeing the promo for this episode, it's worth at least a few gags with a
spoon.

Yes, I have watched it every week for 10 years unless it is a repeat (which
is kind of amazing because that means I have been watching since I was only
11 or 12, kinda young for that show).

I'm not Dale, but here was my brief take on it:

The beginning at the coffee house, they told the gang that they were leaving
for the interview and they weren't getting their hopes up because the woman
could decide to keep the baby or not choose them, etc. Pheobe says, "So
what are you going to name it?" One of the others said, "Oh my gosh you are
going to get a baby!" Monica then says, "OPh my god, Im going to get a
baby!" And went all competitive what ever it takes, come on Chandler lets
go get our baby.

Monica and chandler went to be interviewed by a potential bmom and somehow
the files were mixed up and she thought that Chandler was a doctor and
monica was a minister. Instead of correcting her by saying, "wait that's not
us, but let us tell you who we are..." they lied and pretended to be those
professions by answering the questions that were job related. After the
interviewer the facilitator wanted to talk with the birthmom and she said no
need because I choose them.

So in another room while the paperwork for an open adoption being put
together, Monica and Chandler celebrate, but Chandler then insists on
telling the birthmom the truth. Monica gets mad and says no because "No one
loves that baby more than I do and she won't pick us" She then rambles on
more about what if no one ever picks us and Chandler then says, "This woman
is giving us her baby, she deserves to know who she is giving her baby to"

They go back into the room and then the birthmom says something more about
their job, and Monica goes to keep up the lie, but then Chandler tells her
the truth. The birthmom is disgusted they lied and leaves the room. Chandler
follows and gives one really emotional speech about why they deserve to be
parents and how awful he feels he can't give his wife a baby and really it
was quite the speech that really did show he grasped the whole adoption/
what a birthmom would be doing ideas. Where as I felt that Monica was come
hell or high water I am getting that baby.

So he walks back into the room with monica and says that they are getting
the baby.

===============
LOL.... The agency/emom identified the couple by ID numbers, which got mixed
up. The emom thought Chandler and Monica were a doctor and a reverend,
respectively. Monica, being a terribly desperate pap, pretended to be a
reverend and blah blah blah. The perky emom decided that she would sign the
papers and let M and C have her baby.

C confronted M in their hotel room about the lying and how the emom had a right
to know who she was giving her baby to. M figured it was their last
opportunity and didn't see anything wrong with the lie, since she'd be such a
good mom afterwards. It was, however, the only redeeming portion of the show,
IMO -- Chandler taking a strong stand and being willing to lose the opportunity
rather than lie to get it.

So they told the bmom they had lied. She got mad and walked out and refused to
give them her baby. THEN, C followed her out in the hall, gave her the violin
story about how they can't have children and she might be their last chance,
manipulating at best.

The end showed C going back in the room asking M is she still wanted the baby,
because they got it. yippeee (ugh)

At least I am glad they came clean and fessed up but still...eww.

I guess I have to keep reminding myself that Friends is about making the
audience laugh.

--------------

Agency = Adoption agency (or whomever was facilitating the adoption)

emom = expectant mother (who isn't a birthmother since she's not relinquished
yet)
