My husband was out of work for four months this year because of a back
injury. He has since gone back to work. We've gotten behind on bills
mainly the credit cards. When some of the credit cards went to
collection agencies, the agencies offered us settlements. We're making
payments every month now. Two of the cards we've placed in CCCS
because the interest rates were so high. The other cards have no
interest and all fees have been stopped. We are making payments, and
we're not getting behind BUT its taking everything we have every month
to make the payments. It will probably take four to five year to pay
them off. Would debt settlement be best? or would just making the
payments until they're paid off be best? We're both young. We would
love one day to have a house of our own. Thanks Jenn

Debt settlement is getting tougher everyday.

In order to truly be able to settle you must be prepared to file bk.
Sounds like your on track to payoff the debt soon.

Two years ago we did the CCS thing but found that if we made the payment on
time, we couldn't keep up with our other bills, home, lights, water,
phone.etc. after adopting a child with health problems. We tried everything,
including a debt to pay off some of our debt. After 2 years of horrible
credit, we have filed BK and the load lifted off our shoulders is
tremendous. Our meeting is 2 days before Thanksgiving and I am so glad to
end this drama and start over again. I'm also glad that we were turned down
for a second mortgage this year. We found out our homestead is exempt from
the bankruptcy.

I went the CCCS route for 1 year. Finally filed for BK7.My monthly
payments to CCCS were always on time but nothing left over. Before you
decide think carefully about the payments you wll have to make for 3 or
4 years. That's a long time and you'll never know what emergency may
arise in this time period.Check with your local attorney and let him/her
look over your situation. Most consultations are free.Bottom line DON"T
tie up all your money with CCCS
