Amish Children Find Infant's Body in Trash


STRASBURG, Pa. (AP) - Amish children who were getting ready to burn their
school's trash found the body of a newborn girl Wednesday, authorities said.

The body was found in a bag in the burn barrel of an Amish school in
Strasburg Township, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia. The bag had been
placed in the barrel sometime between Dec. 24 and Monday, but no one looked
in the bag until Wednesday, said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Douglas
Burig.

``We are appealing to the public for anyone to call us with information
about anyone who recently gave birth or should have given birth and does not
have a child with them,'' Burig said.

The cause of death was not immediately determined; Burig said an autopsy was
scheduled for Friday.
