Brenda:

Your bankruptcy discharged this debt, no matter how often it is
sold (and resold). Send the collection agency and the credit
reporting agency a copy of your discharge and your Schedule F
showing the creditor and ask the former to go away and the later
to fix its records.

showing a credit card account (sold to a collection agency) with a past
due balance. I know the credit card was included in the bankruptcy
but what about the collection agency? Since they weren't listed do
I need to pay this account? My credit reports from Experian and
Equifax both list this account with the collection agency as "Seriously past
due". Thanks in advance. Brenda

Brett,

what happens if you do send those letter and the credit reporting agency
doesn't change anything, and the collection agency still keeps reporting
it, "seriously past due"

TIA
MS

Michael,

Sometimes it takes several go-arounds with the CRAs before they correctly
report items.

When I started working on correcting my credit reports, I had 14 errors on
my TransUnion report, eight errors on the Experian report, and seven on the
Equifax report. When I sent off my most recent dispute letters (this is
round #2), I had seven errors remaining on the TU, four on Experian, and
three on Equifax.

It takes time, and patience, to correct everything. Oh, it also takes
copies of your individual credit reports. <g>

You have the right to file suit under the Fair Credit Reporting
Act, as well as the common law tort of "slander of credit."

Speak with a consumer law attorney for more details.
