I went to CCCS just to see if they thought I could pay the debt back (they
didn't) and they sent my name and info to a lawyer. This lawyer called me
(he's in another state) and answered all my questions on filing BK and
explained the fees etc. He says that they will contact a local lawyer in my
area, who will do all the filing etc. , and we just pay the fee to his
company. Is that legit? (He's sending me paperwork to fill out and mail
back).

Why not just use a local lawyer?

He belongs to American Bankruptcy Counselors, and as I understand it, they
prepare your case, and then have a local lawyer actually appear for you.
However, after your post, I'm thinking that a local lawyer is the best way
to go. Is there a way that you would recommend finding a good one (other
than yellow pages?)

In what city and state are you located? (If a small city, what is
the closest large city?)
Even if the person you spoke with is knowledgeable, you have no
idea whether the person you're referred to will be, or how willing
he/she will be to answer your questions, etc.
