I need some advice.

I am an African-American Female with a BS in Accounting. I am currently working with a company in Northern Virginia. Been employed since 2000. The accounting department is quite small. My position is Senior Staff Accountant and I am the only black employed in that department.

Well, I started with the company during Fixed Assets and Sales Taxes and I was the only person doing those duties. In 2001, a new Comptroller came and he hired a white female as Financial Analyst. This individual did not have a degree. This individual was taking training, paid for by company, all over the country to implement a new software. The assumption was that with the new software, everyone duties would be easlier.

After the training, my responsibilities with the fixed assets was diminished to agreat extend. The comptroller, under the table, gave the Financial Analyst my duties in reference to all the fixed assets. This person is in control of all assets and I am left doing minor pieces of the assets. She since has been promoted twice and given more responsibilies. I have asked several times about more duties and was told "we see". That was in 2001 and every year after that it was always the same.

Even with order office equipment the pattern of discrimination is there. I asked for a desktop printer ($80) in my office and was told that "we do not have that in the budget". Several white females(4) later on, several months later, requested system printer($1350-1500) and they received them.

I have filed with the EEOC and I want to know do this sound like discrimination to you. My annual evaluation were always good. :(

It certainly has the earmarks for it. To be completely sure, there would need to be additional information provided. I'm sure that the EEOC will conduct an investigation and will let you know about the results.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The company has over300 employees.

They did not have me train or go to any meeting in reference to the new implemention.

The Financial Analyst still does not have a degree.

I have not been promoted not once.

The comptroller promotes his buddies, young women with degrees. Their positions are managers, asistant director and directors.

My pay has always been 3% and others are getting 9%. I was always told that "this is way what we have budgeted" or "everyone else is getting that"

My evaluations were always good.

:) It has been a long time that I came on board to express my concerns with discrimination on my Job. Well, after the filing with EEOC,hiring an attorney, and filing claim with the Alexandria District Court, the company had decided to settle!!!!

I want to tell people that if they have a feeling that they were been discriminated against to start documenting all activity and keep those documents at home. Keep yourself on the straight path as far as going to work on time, stay off the internet and keep personal stuff off your email. Because they will use those things against you.

The settlement is a vindication for me because I knew all along that this illegal practice was going on. It was a hard road and I had to get another job(thanks to my God) and was escorted out of the building. But things work'd themselves out for my benefit. Also, I had a excellent attorney.

Congrats on your settlement! I have a very similar situation. I contacted the eeoc back in august or september. it's still under investagation. i've been trying to get by without a lawyer, but am to the point that i just can't do it alone anymore. the more i try to get questions answered, the more frustrated i am and am just left with more questions! i think i've finally found an attorney, but i'm just sick of waiting. i was the only woman in my department, only one of three in the whole company. very male dominated.
