I work for a large utility company and I am currently hired on as a contract employee waiting for an opening to become eligible for hire by the company. A girl at work whom I have made aqquaintances with outside of work has decided to go around and tell people that I work with that my husband made passes at her and is in love with her and wants a sexual relationship. I confronted her about the comments and she said to me in front of other employees well if you would make him happy at home he would not come find me in a bar. I let that go and continued to do my job and she continued with the rumors and then starting being very rude to me and sending me rude emails and left a message calling me rude on my voicemail at work. I reported this harrassment to my supervisor and in return I had a meeting with the supervisor from the contract company and the director of human resources with this company and they would not let me explain anything to them and in fact interupted me and said they did not care to hear what was said just wanted me to know this was not tolerated and would be stopped. then they had a meeting with her and she was not in any trouble for this and I felt like I was the one in trouble. After that meeting I have been getting things turned in to my supervisor saying I have done stuff wrong everyday and the girl is still spreading these things to everyone and I am so embarrassed and humiliated. I have had to start taking Cymbalta for anxiety just to be able to go to work and I am afraid to say something again in fear of loosing my job because I really can not afford to be without a job. This is just the basics does anyone think this is just freedom of speech and I need to suck it up or is this grounds for a lawsuit for defamation of character and harrassment.
