I am not finding anything relating to my specific situation in Kansas. Company wants us to take at least a 30 minute lunch always. Because company requires it, I realize I must take. Problem, when out of hometown on business, obviously I cannot go home for lunch. Most places I have worked give meal compensation when out of town on company business. I guess that is just a nicety? or is it required that they do this?

The problem with taking the break out of town is the inability to bring my own lunch (properly chilled or heated) and not always having the cash on hand to eat out for lunch. Should I still be required to take that break without pay as the work at hand forces me to be out of town the entire day?

There is no requirement that the employer reimburse you for meals while you are on company business during the day. And just because you are not going to eat doesn't mean they can't require you take the break.

How about something that doesn't need to be refrigerated but can be heated up in a microwave at a service station or something? Are you really that far out of civilization where that wouldn't be available? Also, the insulated lunch coolers work fine for several hours.
